What: The Tai Chi class is currently focusing on both empty hand tangs (katas or forms), basic form chi-gung for reeling silk practice, the stone warrior strengthening set, and the basic skills sets. Our class will continue to work on these skills during the next sessions. We have started doing 30-45 minutes of Chi gung type exercises along with the forms which really works the lower lumbar vertebrae joints, hip joints and the related muscle groups. We will also be adding more of the movement and foot work from Aikido and Bagua. We've reduced the amount of time spent on defense applications in order to fit in these subroutines. |

| Yoga | Begins Wednesday, Wednesdays, 5:30-6:45 PM. Cost: Free |
I would like to extend an invitation for you to attend my “free” Yoga class. I’ve started teaching students that attended Alyssa Kimura’s class this summer and we have room for another 4-6 people. The class is offered in the ROB fitness center on Wednesday’s at 5:30-6:45PM and will continue indefinitely. I will be accepting additional students on a first come first serve basis, so please e-mail me (brett.braatz@pnl.gov) if you are interested. A bit about me: I love yoga! I’ve been practicing for 5 years. I’ve taken classes in several styles of yoga including Astanga, Iyengar, Anusara, Kundalini, and Para. I have taken yoga teacher training in Yoga Sequencing from Rod Stryker in Para yoga and am enrolled in a 200 hour teacher training program in Anusara yoga. A bit about the class: This will be an introductory level 1 class where the key fundamentals of yoga will be taught. You will need your own yoga mat. I’m very much into understanding the science behind why yoga is so good for your mind and body, so part of my teaching style includes teaching about that. Depending on your flexibility, I highly recommend you purchase a set of two yoga blocks and a yoga belt (Wal-Mart, Costco, or Target). I also suggest you bring some sort of blanket to sit on. There should be standard sized blankets available (next to the blocks, belts) which are “right-sized” for yoga. Despite having done yoga for 5 years, due to my being flexibility challenged, I’ll be needing these tools for the rest of my yoga career. |
