Mission Statement:
Battelle is committed to the community, in part, through appreciation and support of the arts by purchasing, from local artists, quality art pieces that can be viewed and appreciated by staff members and the general public. This artwork may then be sold or auctioned to purchase new pieces as part of a revolving art collection.
History:
The Battelle Art Collection idea was first conceived and implemented by PNNL Director Sherwood Fawcett in 1965. The purpose of the collection was to support local artists by purchasing artwork that could be displayed, then considered for auction, at which point auctioned pieces would be replaced by new pieces. The collection would be a "living" entity by virtue of its rotation process.
